biography

I completed a B.Sc. (zoology and botany majors) and enjoyed it, but felt the need for something more creative in the aesthetic sense, and after a year working as a research assistant at the Oceanographic Research Institute in Durban felt sure that I should change direction. I went to the Natal Technikon where I completed a three year diploma course in jewellery design and manufacture.

I have exhibited with Hyme Rabinowitz, Michael Cope and Meagan Meredith; and in group exhibitions at Peter Visser and Primart Gallery. I have also participated in a national craft exhibition at the Johannesburg Art Gallery; an exhibition of handmade jewellery, Gencor Gallery, RAU, 1993; SDSA Designer Jewellery of South Africa exhibition, Sandton, 1997 and exhibited with the CCDI at One of a Kind, 2007, Design Indaba 2008 and Icons, Spier, 2007-2008.

My jewellery is represented in the annual CCDI Handmade Exhibition Collection 2010, as it was in 2009.

I entered the De Beers Diamonds Today Competition, 1993, and won a 2nd prize and a merit award.

I have taught jewellery design for short periods at the Ruth Prowse School of Art, Technikon Natal (now the Durban University of Technology) and the Witwatersrand Technikon (now the University of Johannesburg), but prefer more individual and informal teaching environments.
